Eat, Eating, Ate at KL

Remember my Goddess DIY-ed her own Galaxy nails for her cousin-in-law's wedding? Here' the post!

The wedding was held at KL, so the whole Koo family including the boyfriends of the 2 sisters went on a road trip to KL. Prepare your tissue. This post is all about good food that will make you drool!

My Goddess worn her tattered 3/4 jeans - the fake Abercrombie & Fitch one - which she bought like in 2008 during her first overseas trip with the Horny Devil to BKK with her twin Nora and his buddy Kevin. She wore if for a while during her uni days but stopped after a while, thinking the jeans looked too rugged for her. 4 years later, she still could fit in! Phew~

Tattered jeans

As they went on straight onto the new highway from the Woodlands Checkpoint, their breakfast stop was at one of the Rest & Relax stops.

And if you have driven down the highways before, you would have known that the food there are usually very sucky (except for the one A&W stop!). The stop that they were at had thousands of flies. So many that it just turns your appetite off.

Houseflies
Look at the congregation of flies! Eeew~

In the end, my Goddess ordered only the Beef Dog, which is also very yucky.

The Horny Devil's doesn't look yummy at all too.

Back on the road, they took another 3 hours to reach KL and their hotel, Quality Hotel.

Unfortunately, the Hotel was not quality at all.

Quality Inn KL

The corridor had a mouldy smell, the bed hard, and the sheets had stains. The TV is also not the LCD kind. The room rate was like $25/pax/room, so guess what you pay is what you get. The last hotel stay my Goddess had with her family members at Hotel Istana was so much more luxurious, and had a better location, and it was probably just S$20 more per room. Luckily they were only staying there for one night.

As the family only had one meal in the morning at 10, they were famished by 4pm. So they decided to head for some light lunch/snacks before the dinner at 7pm. Walked to a mall which had SOGO and had Nando's. Oh my, SOGO is such a classic. Can't even remember which year was it that it left Singapore.

Nando's was so-so only - the sauce was unique, but the chicken tough - frozen chicken taste. And the caramel cheesecake look nothing like that in the picture!

Nando's @ KL

After snacking, it was back to the hotel to dress up for the dinner. My Goddess saw this look on Laneige's Facebook page and thought the model/actress was very pretty! She loved her effortlessly flawless yet chic look, and so this became the look that she aimed to create that night.

Laneige

At the same time, she read on Pinterest the tips and tricks to create the Victoria Secrets model look - Divide the hair into 3 sections (top and left and ride side) and use curling tongs to curl the hair first. Then use rollers to give the hair volume. This step is important as otherwise the curling tongs will create a tighter curls effect.

Creating Victoria Secret Hair

So in the meanwhile, while waiting for the hair to set, time for the makeup to create the look!

The only Laneige item that my Goddess had was the black eyeshadow bought during a sale - Laneige Professional Selection Shadow (Shimmer) in G769 Deep Khaki. The black shadow was shaded on the upper eyelids. Then The Body Shop's Lily Cole Limited Edition Shimmer Cube (23)'s dark brown was used to blend above the black shadow. For the socket of the eyes, my Goddess used the same shimmer cubes, but in the light pink shade.

For her cheeks, my Goddess used The Body Shop All in One Cheek Colour in 01 Macaroon to give the slight rosy hue, and Sephora bronzer in 1 Clair Light to contour her face. For her lips, she used Estee Lauder's Pure Colour 13 in Peach Color that she had previously won in MakeupStash's contest, and Mac Lipglass in Golden Blanket to give the dewy look.

And so here's her completed look!

The orange lights in the hotel room is totally not doing justice to the colours!

To show the similarity of the makeup, my Goddess attempted to do the same pose as the Laneige model. But she's not used to taking those sultry, pout lips and non-smiling pictures and so failed to capture the right mood countless times.

Baaahhh!! Fail big time!
Her best attempt was when she modeled for Lancome's Genefique ad. And that was taken under the guidance and directions of the photographer who asked her to tilt this way, look this way, mouth open slightly.

And finally, she got the shot almost right! And that was taken when the car was under an overhead bridge and so the lighting was totally off. And perhaps it's because the lighting was off that she looks almost like she's in the right pose! LOL

I know the hair is totally off, as 1. my Goddess had longer hair which was pulled down by the weight and 2. this was totally DIYed

The wedding was held at Hakka Restuarant, an interesting alfresco dining restaurant which was awarded Time Out Food Awards in 2011. The set-up was pretty romantic, except for the red lanterns.

Both the cousin-in-law and her husband are in the creative/media industry - and hence their wedding pictures are all pretty artistically taken. In fact the pictures were all DI-ed by the cousin-in-law herself!

Wedding Dinner @ KL

The food there was quite interesting - not your typical wedding dinner food. However, the portion is smaller than my Goddess and the Horny Devil's wedding at Ipoh. The most interesting one was the dessert.

Here's a picture of the bride before the night ends.

This was the dress that my Goddess bought in 2008/9 for her hall's D&D. It was from Urban & Co. Is the shop even existent now? My Goddess wanted to wear something chic and not too formal or casual. She couldn't find any suitable dress in the shops in her last minute desperate search (phew for the pocket) and found this untouched for some time in her wardrobe! Thankfully she could still fit in it!

And in case you are wondering what base is she using for that near flawless glow look, it's The Body Shop Limited Edition Lily Cole Pearl Radiance Primer (think it's no longer in sale now?), Lancome Miracle Teint and La Prairie Loose Powder in 0.

With so much food consumed the last night, my Goddess and the Horny Devil hit to the gym the very next morning to undo the sins. But the gym was so 'lok kok' (lousy) that all the machines were spoilt. And they even have a squash court which I wonder if any tourist will use. The hotel is probably targeted at locals?

Then it's back on the roads for yummy breakfast!

Look at the variety they have!! *Drools*

Dim Sum @ KL

To have the best of both world, they went to the Ban Mee store (Mei Yi) to have their famous dried Ban Mee/Curry Ban Mee, and packed over the Dim Sum. And I must say the Ban Mee is the most delicious dried Ban Mee that my Goddess had. The curry version - soup and dry was also salivatingly-delicious!

Ban Mee breakfast

After breakfast, my Goddess' Father and Mother-in-law went to ran some errands while the Koo siblings waited in a cafe.

Look at the humongous banana in the cafe!
Lunch was at another yummy restaurant Woh Kei with the Koo relatives.

And there was a cute bubble tea shop just beside the traditional eatery.

And on the other side of Woh Kei was a 100-Yen shop - brings back Japan memories!

Thereafter, it was pack to the relative's house for more catching up, while the Horny Devil studies for his coming exams and my Goddess filling bored and hence camwhoring.

And before their lunch was digested, they were brought out for dinner at a famous KL Hokkien mee store from Petaling Street Jin Lian Ji. Just that this was a branch inside a mall, Viva Furniture Mall. Somehow eating inside an aircon place just feel less authentic and delicious.

And the relatives even went to buy durians after the filling dinner.

The durians were still a little unripe. The Toa Payoh Lorong 8 ones taste much better than this!

With a super filling day of food the day before, they went for a more simple dim sum breakfast the next morning - their last yummy meal in KL.

Dim Sum @ KL

Ok maybe that's not the last - my Goddess' lunch was a Magnum Choco-Cappucino ice-cream - something new that my Goddess has not tried. And the price of it was just like RM5.90? So of course it's a must-buy!

Magnum Cappucino Ice-cream

My Goddess still prefer the original Magnun. This one has crystallized/caramelized sugar that makes it hard to chew without getting the sugar stuck in your teeth.

And this marks the end of my Goddess exciting and super sinful KL trip, so much food that she has gained 1kg from all the gorging! Time to hit the gym & salad bars for the rest of the month!
